Bonnaroo or CMA?

Posted by Jillian - June 7th, 2010

Again, the dumbasses who plan festivals and book the big acts have caused a huge conflict this week. It is the week of Bonnaroo in Winchester, TN and also CMA Week in Nashville. There is a whole world of Who is Who in the music business coming to Tennessee this week. I’m going to try to get downtown and see at least one afternoon of CMA shows, then we are going to head on down to Bonnaroo – unless the weather gets bad. If it’s going to be thunderstorms in Winchester, I’m just going to stay up here and see the country shows instead. I have absolutely no desire to be standing in a big muddy field in Winchester with thunder and lightning happening.

Frisking Niemi

We were watching the Predators in their 5th playoff game against the Chicago Blackhawks last night. There was a very odd moment, when the officials could not find the puck. We called it, “Hide the puck on the Goalie.”

Online Friends

Posted by Jillian - April 21st, 2010

The best thing about Yahoo chat is that you never know who else will be online the same time that you are, and they might want to say hello when they see that you logged in. That happened tonight, when my girlfriend, Dian was online late and saw that I was on, too.

Dian and her husband have lived in Greensboro ever since they got married about 11 years ago. I met her a few months after she gave birth to their first baby, a little girl. Dian quit her job as a teacher to stay at home with the baby, and she spent a lot of time online during the day.

Dian was originally from Valdosta, Georgia, and her husband was from Charlotte. He found a good computer job in Greensboro, which was close enough for relatives to visit, but not so close as to be crowded by pushy in-laws. We’ve visited each other once or twice a year ever since we first met, even though Nashville is more than a half day’s drive away. I wish we lived closer, but since we can chat any time of day or night, that helps keep our friendship alive.

Bobby’s Surprise Birthday

Posted by Jillian - April 8th, 2010

A lot of my friends went to a surprise birthday party for Bobby Bare. They all got to his house about an hour before he was expected home and thank goodness it was dark before he did, as there were dozens of cars parked in the back yard. It was a huge surprise for Bobby when he walked in, and with all the musicians in the room, you would not believe the variety of wonderful songs that were played all night, well into the wee hours. Of course, musicians are used to be up until the wee hours, but regular folks like me start to droop after 1:00 or 2:00 am!

Happy Mardi Gras!

Posted by Jillian - February 16th, 2010

I’ve only been to Mardi Gras once but it was a total blast. It had some great moments and a couple of bad moments, but OMG – what a party! I do love New Orleans for their craziness and some of the best food anywhere in the world. Wish I had a fantastic costume like this one to wear for a day. Wish I was there right now. FML :(

Weekend Project

When someone in your household is allergic to chocolate, you tend to take a fresh look at candies and sweets. So many Christmas candies and treats are chocolate-based. We decided to fight that by building a gingerbread house this year for a family Christmas project.

We were inspired by a kit at Kroger, but I don’t think we need a kit to make one of these. I found a picture of what we want to do and we can use that for a guide.

Titans Back to Winning

Posted by Jillian - November 15th, 2009

Wow – today’s game with the Titans hosting Buffalo was a blow out. It looks like our team has finally found their mojo and they are back to winning.

I am sad that the missing element seems to be have been that they needed Vince Young to be quarterback. He is such a jerk and I can’t stand cheering for him. But when the coach pulled the veteran QB and put Vince in, everything started to click for the team. This makes three wins in a row. Go, Titans!
