Doggy Booster Seat

Posted by Jillian - August 8th, 2010

Saw this online but have not yet seen it in the stores. I think it is a great idea for little dogs! My dogs are not that little to need it, but if I had a miniature breed or a Chihuahua, this would be great for them to be able to see where we are going on short trips around town.

Vanity Plates

Posted by Jillian - March 8th, 2010

This morning I was reading Jeremy Herndon‘s blog and he had posted about vanity license plates. He mentioned that some vanity plates are a way for charities to raise money. I had not thought of that and it seems a relatively painless way to support a worthy cause by buying a decorated tag for your vehicle.

My car needs to have the tags renewed next month, so I think I will head down to the Clerk’s office and see what choices they have for a vanity plate that I can order and help out an organization that could use my support.

Cruising the Neighborhood

Posted by Jillian - November 18th, 2009

One of the things I’ve been meaning to get started on is a gradual exercise routine. Something that I can do for about 20 or 30 minutes each day, preferably outdoors. I used to walk the dogs at a brisk walk when we lived across town, but since moving into this neighborhood, we cannot safely walk anywhere but our own yard. So there is not much briskness to that.

I was thinking that riding a bike would be something I could handle and it would be more interesting than just walking the neighborhood. There are some good deals on bicycles on the internet. I found a site that sells awesome beach cruisers in a variety of models. These are bikes that are great for level ground and ridden at a leisurely pace. I’m not the least bit interested in racing or dirt bikes. I love the idea of beach cruisers.

Modern bicycles are much more technology based than the beach bikes of my childhood. The materials used to make the frame and the tires are a whole new advanced breed than the last bike that I owned. I can’t wait to get a cruiser with the seat and handlebars just like I want them and head out into my neighborhood.

Funds During a Lawsuit

Posted by Jillian - November 13th, 2009

When my friend Tracy was in a car wreck, she was hit by a person who did not have insurance. Even though by law you must have insurance to drive a car in this state, the other driver had no insurance and not even a valid driver’s license. So she had to deal with a lawsuit against that driver and it dragged out for a long time. She had to sue for all the damages above and beyond what her insurance covered and she had to pay her lawyer’s expenses during the trial.

I had no idea that having a lawsuit like this would cost so much money out of pocket and take so long to be heard in court. And hers was just a little lawsuit compared to some of the big ones you hear about on the news.

Some people need help getting by during a lawsuit, so a company has figured out a way to front your money during the trial. It’s called legal finance and is a non recourse loan. That means if you unfortunately lose your case you don’t have to pay it back. If you win your case, you pay them back from the proceeds. So you might want to check it out one day.

Hello from Europe

My broker friend in Dallas sends me the cutest postcards from all his travels. He has been quite the jet-setter these past couple of years. His clients include a lot of big international executives and he is always ended up in the most interesting places.

When I called him on his cell phone last week he answered it while having dinner in Spain and was on his way to Portugal. In fact, he should be spending this weekend in Lisbon and then he will head back to Dallas for a few weeks.

Paul told me that he hired a car for his trip and recommends the web site bestcarhire.co.uk for a Portugal Car Hire. The site is easy to use and they book through the top 12 recognized car rental companies.

The Price for Partying in L A

Posted by Jillian - September 14th, 2009

One of my new Facebook friends was telling me about his recent trip out to Los Angles. His son has a band and they were invited to play at three different venues over Labor Day weekend. So my friend went with his son and they enjoyed a little road trip to L. A.

I had told him that is they planned on doing any partying that they needed to have the name of an attorney in their wallet – just in case. There’s nothing worse than getting pulled over for DUI unless it is getting pulled over for DUI while you are out of town.

The best Los Angeles DUI Drunk Driving Attorneys are available 24/7 and it only takes a moment to write down their number. Just in case.

Get Smart About Insurance

Posted by Jillian - August 19th, 2009

The favor for the employment agency was working in a small insurance office for a couple of weeks. I was hoping the insurance agent would find someone quickly, so I could move on to other things. But working in his office gave me the opportunity to ask a lot of questions about insurance and read manuals when it was quiet. So I learned quite a bit about vehicle insurance.

There are different kinds of coverages for vehicles and the rate you pay for insurance depends upon a lot of factors. You have to decide what type of coverages are important to you and then you build up from the state insurance commissioner’s minimum legal limits to find a level of protection that works for your own financial situation and exposure.

You also have to decide on the amount of money you can pay yourself as a deductible in case you ever have a claim. Some of the rate also will depend upon your driving record and accident history. In some states, you credit report is also a factor.

I put all of my knowledge to work this week as I began shopping for van insurance. I bought the van for occasional use and rarely drive it, but I cannot afford to have it uninsured. If the vehicle has tags on it, you need to have insurance on it, too. But now, instead of going down to a small insurance broker’s office, I can go to a web site and get a quote online. That saves time and money and I love the convenience of taking care of business online.

Family Gathering

Posted by Jillian - August 9th, 2009

Unfortunately we had to miss a big family gathering this weekend at my sister’s home in Virginia. My car is in the shop and it is taking longer to get the parts than we expected. So my car is not running and that means we stay home.

She invited the whole family to come for the day and spend an afternoon out in the country having a fun little barbecue and visit with her youngest son, who is visiting for a week before heading back to college Mid-August.

Hope that someone was taking pictures and posts them onlines so I can see everyone having fun.

I Pack – They Drive

Posted by Jillian - August 3rd, 2009

Moving from Nashville to L. A. is going to pose a lot of logistical problems. I have a house full of furniture and stuff, two vehicles, and 5 dogs. Just the idea of packing up everything into boxes and having to throw away a lot of stuff not worth moving and handling makes me very depressed.

A long distance move is very different from a local move. I’ve moved around town a few times and it is nice to be able to make multiple trips back and forth between the new place and the old house. When you have to move long distance, you lose that luxury and the stress gets much more intense.

The idea of renting a huge self service truck and having to drive across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and then across southern California into the big city of L. A. is pretty intimidating to me. But I don’t think I can afford the luxury of a full service moving van company. So finding an affordable alternative is going to be the only way.

Looks like ABF’s truck rental might work for me. I do all the packing and they provide the truck and driver. They can trailer one of my cars and I can drive the other one with the fragile items like my beautiful houseplants and my dogs.

Where can I buy these stick people? I see them all the time. Not this funny, but I see them. Who sells them?
