Snow Crafts

Posted by Jillian - February 28th, 2009

My neighbors have a great imagination. They aren’t satisfied with the plain vanilla snowman or snow fort. They have to be original and put a dang snow centipede in their yard. So now I am trying to think of one better.

We don’t have much time – the snow will be gone in a day and that’s what I love about living here. I’ll let you know what comes of it.

Love Story

Posted by Jillian - February 24th, 2009

While shopping at Target this afternoon, I found a collection of old movies on DVD for the sale price of just $5. I love to collect DVDs and find that I watch a movie of choice on weeknights rather than suffering through the garbage on network TV. So in the bargain bin I picked up a really old movie called, “Love Story,” with Allie MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal.

This movie will always hold a special place in my heart, for not only did it make a huge impression on me when I first saw the story but it was a very similar story to what I was living at the time. My parents were dead set against my relationship with my fiance and we were forced to build our own lives apart from our families for the first several years of our marriage.

This movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards in 1970 and the musical score by francis Lai won the Oscar. It is a classic that I was happy to find in the bargain bin and it is worth every penny of the $5 that I paid today.

Special Valentine

Posted by Jillian - February 14th, 2009

When you have been “off the market” for several years, your valentines tend to get less elaborate and less passionate, which is a shame. To me, a well gifted Valentine’s Day has much more potential than a birthday gift. A Valentine’s gift is symbolic of “us” whereas a birthday gift is “all about me.”

If you are lucky enough to have a special someone in your life, I hope you make an effort to please each other on Valentine’s Day. It’s the perfect chance to put a little spice back into your love life or kick up the romance factor just a notch.

TV’s Second Season

Posted by Jillian - February 8th, 2009

Now that the holidays and football are over for the winter season, we have a short stretch of late winter and early spring when TV launches their second season of shows. Then we have summer with the reruns and back to the fall with new shows. It’s almost like the four seasons of TV versus the four seasons of Mother Nature!

I’m looking forward to the return of the Amazing Race and Survivor. I know both of them start with a brand new series and episode next week. The Race is my favorite reality show and if I was 10 years younger I’d be trying like crazy to get on there and compete. My dilemma would be deciding who to take with me so I could boost my chances of winning. My first thought would be to take my sister, then my second thought would be to take my son. Oh dear, decisions! Decisions!

I haven’t heard anything about the new Big Brother, but that is the third best reality show on my personal list. What’s on yours?

Scare the Groundhog

Posted by Jillian - February 2nd, 2009

There was a cute animated cartoon that I came acorss where a groundhog poked his head out of his burrow and his shadow rose up from the ground and grabbed him by the neck and choked him, then dragged him off – presumably to his great demise. OK – that was a little morbid, but it made the point that the shadow isn’t really going to hurt you and being afraid of it is humorous.

But that would be a good idea for a horror film – everyone’s shadow becomes lethal and the only time it is safe to go out is at night or a few minutes at high noon. When the shadows become fully formed they break off and bestow rampant violence on the world. Hmmm – maybe there’s a movie plot in there somewhere!

So this morning our local groundhog celebrity did not see his shadow and we are thrilled that we can expect an early Spring! Bring on the crocus and daffodils!
