While shopping for groceries I sometimes find a neighbor in the aisle and we stop to chat for a few minutes. But today I stopped at a grocery across town and I was completely surprised to find Alexa Wallace in the store. I went to the Trader Joe’s to pick up a few things and while shopping the produce section, Alexa tapped me on the shoulder and said, “Boo!” What a laugh!

We have had about 3 weeks of unbearable heat. The temperatures have been close to 100 degrees every day, with high humidity and very little breeze. The “feels like” temperature has been about 105 – 110 degrees. Even late at night, when I am walking my dogs, the temperatures are still in the 70′s and 80′s. This is very unusual for us to have this long a spell of high heat this early in our summer. I have a bad feeling that my electric bill is going to be very high all summer because of the extra air conditioning that we are running. We can’t even open the windows at night for fresh air. It’s just too hot.

Again, the dumbasses who plan festivals and book the big acts have caused a huge conflict this week. It is the week of Bonnaroo in Winchester, TN and also CMA Week in Nashville. There is a whole world of Who is Who in the music business coming to Tennessee this week. I’m going to try to get downtown and see at least one afternoon of CMA shows, then we are going to head on down to Bonnaroo – unless the weather gets bad. If it’s going to be thunderstorms in Winchester, I’m just going to stay up here and see the country shows instead. I have absolutely no desire to be standing in a big muddy field in Winchester with thunder and lightning happening.

My girlfriend and co-worker, Wendy Carlyle, had a death in the family last month and had to travel to New York for the funeral.
Evidently both of her parents have brothers who are ill. I’m not sure which one passed away, but the office decided to send flowers to the funeral to offer our condolences to Wendy and her family. My secretary took care of it.
It made me realize that I have not had a reason to order or send flowers to anyone for a long time. That is unusual for me, as I used to work for florists when I was much younger, and I have always been eager to send or receive flowers. I’m sorry to say that might be one more social convention that is slowly disappearing.
