Surfing the internet, I found some interesting information about hummingbirds. It seems that most of the hummingbirds east of the Mississippi River are the ruby throat species and west of the Mississippi are a different species, the rufous hummingbirds.

Both species are in the United States from early spring to late summer, and then they migrate to Mexico for the winter.

I am amazed that these little birds can fly from the Gulf Coast of Florida all the way to Mexico – without stopping to rest. That is like an entire 24 hours of nonstop flight! Can you imagine the energy that takes to accomplish?
