My step-mother was telling me that she was going to look into the process of donating real estate to charity. At first I was confused as to why she would want information about that; I didn’t realize that she had any real estate since she sold her home in Woodbridge and moved to Cape Coral. She explained that many decades ago she was given a strip of property in West Virginia that was on a lake, and that the strip was too small to build on according to the current laws of the state. So she was thinking about donating it to a charity so she could write it off and stop having to pay property taxes on it. I find myself wondering if a charity would even want a parcel of real estate like that! What do you think?
