One of the things that I’ve noticed that is becoming more prevalent in this employment market happens to be that more and more companies are performing a background check on the new hire before they actually put them on the payroll. Although I don’t have a personal issue with that, it makes me a little bit concerned about just how many people will actually end up without a job because of some stupid little thing that they did when they were adolescents.
Background check
May 12th, 2012I can take a hint
May 8th, 2012Every Tuesday morning at ten o’clock all of the underwriters are supposed to participate in a company-wide teleconferencing meeting. Normally Bob sends out a reminder text message the day before to urge everyone to be sure to join the meeting. The past few weeks Bob has not bothered to send out a reminder text message to me, and when I dial in to the conference at the appointed time there is no one there. When I call Bob I just get his voice mail, and I leave a message for him to call me back. He has not done so. At this point I’m convinced that he has decided to avoid me.
Parker
April 30th, 2012Buying a Parker guitar is a serious investment for a musician! My niece was telling me that she wants to learn how to play a guitar, and hopes to have enough money to buy a Parker some day. When she showed me how much they cost on the Internet I told her that I did not realize how expensive an electric guitar could be! Some of those guitars were several thousand dollars each! That is some serious money!
Recipes
April 25th, 2012Thinking about my last post, writing about Mayberry, I was thinking about a cook book that I bought quite a while ago. The theme of the cook book was based around what recipes might be in it based on the likes of the Mayberry characters. I love reading cookbooks, and I love to try new recipes. Unfortunately my family is not very receptive to trying new recipes. Although I started cooking at the tender age of fifteen, I have always had fussy eaters to cater to. Which can be very frustrating, since they always claim to be easy to please, but when I put a new dish on the table they balk at trying it. Sometimes I could just SCREAM!
Mayberry
April 21st, 2012One of the things that I love about the south is how much character outdoor ceiling fans add to the decor of a porch. I don’t really know how to explain it, but just sitting on the front porch, on the porch swing, sipping sweet ice tea, being cooled by the gentle breeze of the ceiling fans just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Like I’m living in Andy Griffin’s Mayberry. And I like it.
