Glenna was telling me that Raleigh accountant Carson Thorn specializes in helping small businesses with their accounting needs, and that she has asked her bookkeeper to contact him for a consultation. Glenna has applied for a loan modification for her house and the company has told her that they require a business audit of the business before they will consider that income as part of the application, so it seems that she needs an accountant to do that for her.
Sometimes you need an accountant
February 4th, 2012Good winter
February 4th, 2012So far the winter weather has been really good where I live. Reading a lot of comments from my facebook friends, however, makes me think that we just might be the only lucky ones. Well, with the exception of my good friend Randy, who makes a living from plowing snow! He’s having a different kind of good winter – there has been a lot of snow up where he lives, so he is making pretty good money right now. So that is a good winter in a different way. I can just imagine him exclaiming “manna from heaven” every time it snows!
Snow is pretty to look at, and I enjoy looking at it, and skiing, and skating, and making snowmen, but it makes getting to and from work or school a real pain. Wouldn’t it be nice if all of the roads had electric heating cables in them that would melt the snow and ice?
Giving my old favorite pieces of furniture new clothes
January 30th, 2012Guest post written by Hannah Faw
I’m a big believer in investment pieces. But sometimes you just get really sick of the things that you have in your home. There’s nothing wrong with doing a little facelift for things. So I thought that it would be a cool idea to try and reupholster some of my favorite pieces of furniture. I’ve never done it before. I’d never even thought of it before until one of my friends reupholstered her dining room chairs and they looked even better than when I remembered she first bought them.
I’m really great at taking on projects and seeing them through until the end. I love finding a new challenge for that. When I was online looking up some info on how to reupholster something, I ran across some info on Sears Windows. After I looked through the info some, I decided to get our windows replaced through that service.
I did find some info on upholstery and I’m buying all the stuff that I need this weekend. Here’s to hoping that I end up ending with a much better looking piece of furniture than I started with.
Getting a life
January 26th, 2012Have you ever tried any of the free online dating services? My son recently tried a couple of them and his email inbox has been overflowing ever since with letters of interest from a lot of local single women. I’m glad that he is making an effort to have a social life; he has had a difficult time meeting people his own age around here.
Musical memories
January 20th, 2012My family is a family of musicians. Music has been the family business for at least four generations now. My grandfather used to play the piano for the silent movies, and he was the conductor of his own professional orchestra. In the 1960s my grandparents and my parents were part of a travelling minstrel show that would go up and down the east coast. I can remember as a child attending the shows, and the rehearsals. One of the most fun parts of being in such a family was the ability to have access to all of the family musical instruments and try to play a tune on them. My older sister was pretty good on the left handed guitar, and I was pretty good on the piano. I miss those days; they were good times.
